Skilled Abstinence Training
Unlike AA and the 12-step method, SAT is based on scientific
research and the proven idea that people can learn to
become self-reliant and abstinent though the development
of life management skills. SAT is designed to empower
you to live the life you want without undermining it
with alcohol, drugs or other self destructive behaviors.
SAT does not necessitate that you consider yourself
diseased, powerless or that you need spirituality or a
“higher power” to attain a comfortable and stable
abstinent relationship with alcohol and/or drugs.
The SAT is secular individualized private training or coaching
directed toward the goal of abstinence from one or
several substances and behaviors. It can be combined
with the BRT program where you learn how to eliminate
one substance or behavior while you are taught how to
minimize the use of others. Dr. Kern will work with you
personally and in complete confidentially and will
co-construct with you a step-by-step program until you
feel stable enough to proceed on your own. This will be
no rubber stamped method but a one-of-a-kind solution.
Dr. Kern, will work with you to acquire the skills and
emotional motivation to abstain and feel comfortable
with this decision.
