How does the IAAPC work?

You can get started immediately by emailing me to schedule this consultation. Upon your request I will E-mail back several times and dates that I have open in my schedule for us to meet in person or by telephone. At that time I will also email you several forms (Confidentiality Release, Release of Information ) and tests (Addiction Severity Index ASI, Symptom Inventory, brief life history questionnaire, list of your most important questions) to fill out or internet links where you can do them on line. It will be important, as much as possible, that I have the results of the tests and the forms in advance of our consultation, so I can review them and waist as little time when we are together. Prior to our session you will need to pay for the consultation either by credit card or pay-pal.

Whether we talk face-to-face or by telephone, the IAAPC will be conducted in several stages:

  1. We will jointly review the information submitted and fill in the blanks as to other necessary information

  2. I will give you my impressions of the causes of the problem(s) and suggest some of the basic roads to recovery (including is a detoxification necessary and if an outpatient or inpatient program would best suit your needs)

  3. We will jointly explore the pro’s and con’s of abstinence verses moderating your behavior

  4. Based on number 3 above will go over the available medications that are available to you

  5. I will attempt to make a concrete referral to an experienced physician to explore and prescribe these medications

  6. We will then jointly explore specific methods of strategies that you might use, given your unique situation and desires, that you could begin your journey immediately. This will include short and long term.

  7. I will give you a basic time line and probable stages of involvement so you can anticipate what will be involved in attaining and sustaining your goal.

  8. We will then jointly plan for the implementation of the early stage strategies for attainment of your short term goals

  9. I will give specific referrals to adjunctive support services in your area when-ever available.

  10. Although this may seem like a lot to accomplish in just 60 minutes, it has been my experience that there will be plenty of time left over for you and I to discuss questions you might still have.

  11. At the end of our time together, I will review the key elements of our discussion and we will jointly specify the date and time that further contacts will take place if needed.

  12. I will also mail you or hand you a free copy of my first book “Take Control, Now!” And also make recommendations as to other books and tapes that I think might be particularly relevant to your situation.

  13. Within 3 working days I will call you to see if any new questions and to see if how the blueprint is progressing.

Just as a side note, it is particularly important to me that you understand that this will hopefully be a very pleasant experience for you. I will do my best to make you feel comfortable. Since I have struggled with my own addictions and problems, I hope you will immediately pick up my tone that there is no judgment being made about you and therefore no need to feel ashamed or embarrassed. My hope is that you will find some very useful information about yourself and the resources available to you in a very short period of time. There is no need to feel obligated to follow any of my suggestions nor continue into formal treatment with me.
